This week, some of our students attended the annual EAST conference. EAST is a program focused on community service and technology. They have worked so hard on their projects and showed us why they are some of Lawson's leaders. We are so proud of them and their dedication to learning and helping others!!

Today at Lawson, we had an Electrical Safety Magic Show hosted by Mr. Scott Davis and the Electrical Cooperatives of Arkansas. Mr. Scott always puts on such a fun and informative show that teaches our students to stop, look, and think before making decisions around electricity. Thank you again, Mr. Scott Davis and the Electrical Cooperatives of Little Rock for such an amazing show!

🌡️ Help Us Keep Students Healthy! 🤧
As we head into Spring Break, please review these guidelines on when to keep your child home from school.

According to the latest Viral Respiratory Diseases Report from the Arkansas Department of Health, public schools saw an average absenteeism rate of 8.2% last week. Following these guidelines helps keep our classrooms healthy and learning strong.

Also outlines criteria for returning to school, such as being symptom-free for 24 hours and feeling well enough to participate. Includes a reminder to notify the school of any contagious diagnoses and references page 52 of the PCSSD Student Handbook for more details. Poster features bold headings, icons, and a clean layout for clarity.

🎓 AVID Wednesday Spotlight: WICOR in Action! ✏️📚

The foundation of AVID techniques is the WICOR framework — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — and it was on full display at Sylvan Hills High School.

In Mrs. Bridges’ history class, students explored industrialization and its impact on countries worldwide. After reading about the topic in class, they dug deeper through research, organized their findings into visual models, collaborated on large‑scale posters, and used inquiry to understand how global events shaped the modern world.

👕 Don’t forget to wear your college or career shirt tomorrow and celebrate the strategies that help our scholars think critically and dream big.

It’s National School Breakfast Week, and you don't have to try green eggs and ham like Mrs. Neal's class. 🍳 Breakfast is FREE for every single student in PCSSD starting this school year!

According to the School Nutrition Association, students who eat breakfast are more likely to:
📈 Reach higher achievement levels in reading and math
📝 Score higher on standardized tests
🎯 Have better concentration and memory
🏃‍♂️ Maintain a healthy weight and stay alert

We are proud to fuel our students' minds and bodies! Way to go, Mrs. Neal and Sherwood Elementary, for this fun memory. #PCSSDProud #ServeAll #NationalSchoolBreakfastWeek #ReadAcrossAmerica

PCSSD is aware of the concerns being raised by Lifetouch. PCSSD had an agreement in place prior to all of this new information being released, and the process for providing all school photos had already begun. PCSSD is currently reviewing for potential changes with the agreement, and the district will be considering other options for the next school year.

Today was our 2nd Annual ALPHA Shark Tank Presentation. Our 5th grade ALPHA students dove into the world of entrepreneurship with this Shark Tank activity. Students were challenged to come up with inventions and creative solutions to real-world problems, then pitch their ideas to our panel of "Sharks." We were blown away by their originality, confidence, and problem-solving skills!

All PCSSD schools and offices will be open and operating on a normal schedule for Tuesday, February 3. After-school activities are expected to resume, but please contact your individual school for confirmation. We know that some students may still be unable to safely travel to school. If your student will be absent, you should contact the school registrar or attendance clerk.

Our maintenance and transportation teams have worked diligently for several days removing snow and ice at our facilities, as well as assessing neighborhood routes for our buses. We have identified several bus routes that will be impacted due to lingering hazardous road conditions. A separate communication will be shared at approximately 6 p.m. for families on impacted bus routes. All other transportation routes will operate normally. Thank you for your incredible support and patience during this latest round of winter weather.

Due to continued concerns about hazardous road conditions, schools will remain closed. PCSSD Central Office staff and some district employees will return to work. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make these difficult decisions. We plan to continue monitoring the weather and will provide future updates as needed.

All PCSSD schools and district offices will be closed on Friday, January 30, due to continued hazardous road and weather conditions. All events and activities are canceled or will be rescheduled. The increased temperatures and sunlight have helped to thaw roadways, and our maintenance crews continue to make progress clearing sidewalks and parking lots at our facilities. Even with these improvements, many of our students and employees would still face potentially dangerous travel conditions. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these difficult decisions. We plan to continue monitoring the weather and will provide future updates as needed.
